Hurricane season runs June 1 – November 30

The official sources below are the ones to trust before, during, and after a storm. The board reviews this page each year before hurricane season; the county and state links are always the most current information.
Know your evacuation zone
Hillsborough County has five evacuation zones (A through E), and some areas are in no zone at all. Zones can change between seasons, so check your address before hurricane season each year — don't assume last year's zone still applies.
Evacuation zones are about storm surge, not flood insurance — your flood zone is a separate designation.

HCFL Alert is Hillsborough County's official notification system. It sends emergency alerts like hurricane evacuation orders and flood warnings by text, email, or phone — you choose. It's the fastest way to hear about an evacuation order for our area.

The county's hurricane and tropical storm page covers what to do before, during, and after a storm: disaster supply kits, protecting your property from flooding, pet plans, shelter transportation, and post-storm damage reporting.

FloridaDisaster.org is the state's Division of Emergency Management site, with statewide alerts and recovery info. Ready.gov/hurricanes has the federal government's step-by-step hurricane planning checklists.
For forecast tracks and storm outlooks, the National Hurricane Center (nhc.noaa.gov) is the official source.

Report power outages and check restoration estimates on TECO's outage map. Report storm damage and debris concerns to Hillsborough County. Stay away from downed poles or power lines and call 911.
